The Greatest Purchase
Posted by Bob Barcus on June 26th, 2015
Last Friday, I stopped by a yard sale on the north side of Plymouth and made the greatest purchase of my life – a bug zapper.
Lately, it seems that my porch and yard have been bombarded by swarms of flying insects. I will venture a guess and say that there are billions of them (perhaps with only a slight exaggeration in my estimation). So when I came across a bug zapper at a yard sale, I was interested.
“Does this thing work?” I inquired. The old man who was running the yard sale told me that it did. In fact, too well. That’s the reason he was getting rid of it. I was sold.
When I went to hand him my three hard-earned dollars, I was amazed when he pulled out the original box. Heck, it even had an Ames sticker on it (a long-closed department store from here in Plymouth). I’m guessing that my new purchase was at least 25 years old.
So earlier this week, I got myself a long extension cord and plugged it in. Viola! It lit up and within seconds, little flying bugs were meeting their doom. I’ve left it on the last couple of nights and I can hear its effectiveness.
I am very pleased with my purchase.
